3. Your Portrait Guide in 5 Easy Steps

1. Print Options

(a) 'Canvas Block'

This is the contemporary way to present larger portraits in any room. The image is printed onto a canvas textured material that is stretched over and around a wooden frame. The portrait hangs flush to the wall and is 45mm deep, resulting in an outstanding three-dimensional block effect. Available in three customised sizes - up to 12" wide, up to 20" wide, and up to 24" wide.

(b) 'Shelf' & 'Wall' Ranges

Our modern portrait style usually includes a plain white or plain black background. Options included in the standard prices are colour or black & white or colour toned e.g. sepia. We can also 'hand colour' parts of a predominantly black & white image. See examples in the Home and Gallery sections.

Modern Style

Included within these ranges are the following products:

3. Your Portrait Guide

Step 1 - Initial preparation
Look at the example images on our website for ideas and think about the combinations of people that you would like us to photograph. You may also have your own creative ideas that we can discuss in step 2.

You don't need to decide on every detail at this stage, we will help you along the way!

Step 2 - Book studio session and explore ideas
Contact us to book a studio session. This is the opportunity to discuss ideas and we can advise on what to wear and what not to wear!

For black and white photographs in particular we find that lighter toned tops work better for younger subjects. It's best to avoid heavily patterned and logoed tops unless we are aiming for a special effect. For group portraits it's important to ensure everyone wears complimentary clothing.

We will email you a link to detailed location maps so you can find us.

Step 3 - The studio session
Please ensure that everyone arrives on time wearing suitable clothing as discussed in step 2, you may bring along changes of clothes if you wish.

A typical studio session lasts from between 20 and 60 minutes depending on group size and age combinations. We aim to make the session relaxed and enjoyable.

An appointment will then be made to preview and select your favourite images, normally a week later.

Please advise us if you would like preview images to be also published on our website. This is useful in some cases, for example a family gets together for a studio session and afterwards they return to different parts of the country. We will email your username and password to access a private preview area on our website.

Step 4 - The preview session
Don't worry - this will not be a high pressure sales pitch! We aim to make the preview session relaxed, enjoyable and efficient by showing you the best images to choose from. We present high quality digital images that are an excellent representation of the finished work.

It will only take about 15 to 20 minutes to select your favourite images but finalising sizes and choosing frames if any will take a little longer. A typical preview session lasts from between 30 and 60 minutes.

The preview session starts with a short digital slide show to give you an overall impression of the images to choose from. This is followed by a computer-based selection session using a program to compare your images side-by-side. This is a very efficient way of narrowing your short list. We can also show you how framed images will look at different sizes on our viewing room wall, and show sample frames and examples of finished work.

Step 5 - Collection
Prints are normally ready for collection one week after the preview session. If any mounting or framing is required then please allow at least 2 weeks for the order to be completed. We will phone you to advise when the order is ready for collection.
